🚀 Getting Started
Break Scroll locks the apps you choose — Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and others — using Apple's built-in Screen Time system. To unlock them, you open Break Scroll, pick an exercise, and do real reps. Your phone's camera counts every rep automatically. Complete enough reps to earn screen time, and your locked apps unlock for that duration.
Break Scroll requires iOS 16.0 or later and any iPhone from iPhone XS (2018) onwards. The camera-based rep counting uses on-device AI, which requires a device with an Apple A12 Bionic chip or newer. The app is currently iPhone only — iPad support is planned.
An account is optional but recommended. Without an account, your stats and progress are stored locally on your device only. With an account (Sign in with Apple or Google), your data syncs across devices and is backed up — so if you get a new iPhone or reinstall the app, everything is restored.
Break Scroll uses Apple's FamilyControls framework — the same technology that powers iOS Screen Time — to actually block apps at the operating system level. This is what makes the blocking real and not just a reminder you can dismiss. The permission is required for the core feature to work. We only use it to lock and unlock the specific apps you choose.
🏋️ Exercise & Rep Counting
Rep counting accuracy depends on how well the camera can see your body. For best results:

Lighting — exercise in a well-lit room. Avoid backlighting (e.g. standing in front of a window). Natural light or overhead room light works best.

Distance — position your phone so your full body is visible on screen. For push-ups and squats, about 1.5–2 metres away works well.

Angle — prop your phone horizontally for most exercises. For push-ups, a side angle works better than front-on.

Clothing — avoid clothing that blends with the floor or background. Contrasting colours help the AI detect your joints accurately.
No. All pose detection and rep counting happens entirely on your device using Apple's on-device machine learning framework. Your camera feed is never recorded, stored, or transmitted to any server — not ours, not anyone's. The only thing we store is the final result: how many reps you completed and how much screen time you earned.
Break Scroll currently tracks 11 exercises: Push-ups, Squats, Plank (timed hold), High Knees, Jumping Jacks, Bicep Curls, Lateral Raises, Butt Kicks, Knee to Elbow, Toe Touches, and Walking. All exercises on the free tier are available to start. Break Scroll Pro unlocks all exercises and structured workout sets.
The conversion rate depends on the exercise and your selected difficulty level (Easy, Medium, or Hard). As a guide on Medium difficulty: 6 push-ups = 1 minute, 8 squats = 1 minute, 12 jumping jacks = 1 minute. Harder difficulty requires more reps per minute earned. You can adjust difficulty in Settings → Exercise Settings.
Workout Sets are curated multi-exercise routines across Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Instead of doing one exercise at a time, a set guides you through 4–6 exercises in sequence with automatic rest timers between each one. Completing a full set earns a bonus screen time reward on top of the per-rep earnings. Workout Sets are a Pro feature.
🔒 App Blocking
You can block any app installed on your iPhone — social media, streaming, games, browsers, or anything else. Break Scroll uses Apple's FamilyControls framework, which allows blocking at the operating system level. Break Scroll itself and essential system apps (Phone, Messages, Settings) cannot be blocked.
The blocking is enforced at the iOS level via Apple's Screen Time system. You cannot bypass it from within Break Scroll. However, it can be removed by going to iOS Settings → Screen Time → App Limits and deleting the restriction manually — which would also disable Break Scroll's blocking. The app is designed for self-motivated users, not parental control.
A few things to check:

1. Make sure you tapped Finish or completed the target reps — just closing the camera doesn't save the session.
2. Check that Break Scroll still has Screen Time permission: iOS Settings → Screen Time → [Your Name] → Break Scroll.
3. Restart the app and try exercising again.
4. If the issue persists, go to Settings → Debug → +1 min to test if crediting works at all, and email us if it doesn't.
Yes. Your earned screen time balance resets at midnight each day. Any unused balance does not carry over to the next day, so there's always a fresh incentive to exercise. The block is always active by default at the start of each day — you earn your way in.
👑 Subscription & Billing
Break Scroll Pro is available for $9.99/month or $29.99/year (equivalent to ~$2.50/month — saving about 75% compared to monthly). All payments are processed securely through the Apple App Store. Prices may vary by region based on local App Store pricing.
You can cancel anytime directly through Apple:

1. Open iPhone Settings
2. Tap your Apple ID / name at the top
3. Tap Subscriptions
4. Tap Break Scroll
5. Tap Cancel Subscription

You'll keep Pro access until the end of your current billing period. We don't offer refunds for unused portions of a subscription period — all refund requests go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Open Break Scroll, go to Settings → Subscription → Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used when you originally subscribed. If the restore button doesn't work, try signing out and back into your Apple ID in iPhone Settings, then try again.
The free tier includes app blocking, basic rep counting for core exercises (push-ups have a daily free rep limit), and basic statistics. Break Scroll Pro unlocks unlimited reps on all 11 exercises, all structured Workout Sets across all difficulty levels, advanced statistics and history charts, and priority support.
👤 Account & Data
In the app: go to Settings → Data → Clear All Data. This permanently deletes all your activity logs, statistics, and screen time data from your device. To also delete your account from our servers, email us at support@reiserlabs.com with the subject line "Delete my account" and we'll process it within 5 business days.
Yes. Go to Settings → Data → Export Data to download your complete activity history as a CSV file. The export includes exercise type, rep count, duration, calories burned, screen time earned, and timestamps for every session.
Streaks are calculated based on exercise sessions logged each calendar day. If you missed a day due to a technical issue with the app (not just forgetting to exercise), email us at support@reiserlabs.com with details and we'll look into restoring it on a case-by-case basis.
