Who We Are
Break Scroll is an iOS application developed and operated by Reiser Labs. We help people reduce screen time by requiring physical exercise to unlock apps. Our goal is to build a tool that genuinely improves your life — and that starts with respecting your privacy.
When we say "Break Scroll", "we", "us", or "our", we mean Reiser Labs and the Break Scroll app.
02
What Data We Collect
We collect the minimum data necessary to provide the service.
Account Data (required to use the app)
- Your first name — to personalise your experience
- Your email address — to secure your account and send important updates
- Authentication provider — whether you signed in with Apple or Google
Activity Data (synced to your account)
- Exercise sessions: type, rep count, duration, calories burned, and screen time earned
- App settings and goals you configure in the app
- Your current streak and statistics
- Which apps you have blocked via Screen Time (stored locally only — never uploaded)
Device Data (anonymous, used for crash reporting)
- Device type and iOS version
- App version
- Crash logs and error reports (via Firebase Crashlytics)
Camera data is never collected. All pose detection and rep counting happens entirely on your device using Apple's on-device machine learning. Your camera feed is processed locally in real time and is never stored, transmitted, or shared with us or any third party.
03
How We Use Your Data
- To provide and maintain your account and sync your progress across devices
- To calculate and credit your earned screen time
- To send you important account or service notifications (not marketing, unless you opt in)
- To improve the app by analysing anonymous, aggregated usage patterns
- To diagnose and fix crashes and bugs via Crashlytics
- To process subscription payments via the Apple App Store
We do not use your data to train AI or machine learning models. We do not profile you for advertising purposes.
04
Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data to anyone.
We share data with the following service providers solely to operate the app:
- Firebase (Google) — authentication, database sync, crash reporting, and analytics. Data is stored in secure Google Cloud infrastructure.
- Apple App Store — handles all subscription payments and billing. We never see your payment card details.
- Apple FamilyControls — the system framework that enforces app blocking. All communication stays between your device and Apple's OS.
These providers are contractually bound to protect your data and may not use it for their own purposes.
05
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored in Firebase Firestore, which is encrypted at rest and in transit using TLS. Access to your data in our database is restricted to your authenticated user account only — no other user can read your data.
Your blocked app list and screen time settings are stored locally on your device using iOS's secure UserDefaults and App Groups, and are never uploaded to our servers.
We follow industry-standard security practices. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
06
Your Rights & Choices
You have the following rights over your data:
- Access — you can request a copy of all data we hold about you.
- Correction — you can update your name and email in the app settings at any time.
- Deletion — you can delete your account and all associated data from within the app (Settings → Data → Clear All Data), or by contacting us. Deletion is permanent.
- Portability — you can export your activity history as a CSV from Settings → Export Data.
- Opt-out — you can disable analytics data collection by turning off "Analytics" in iOS Settings → Privacy → Apple Advertising.
For any data requests, contact us at the address below.
07
Children's Privacy
Break Scroll is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Users between 13 and 17 should use the app with parental awareness.
08
Referral Program
If you use our referral feature, we store your referral code and a record of referral completions (which of your friends completed their first workout) in Firestore. This data is used solely to credit screen time rewards. No additional personal information about referred users is shared with the referring user beyond the confirmation that a reward has been earned.
09
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, for material changes, notify you via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of the app after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
